Ronaldo
Match Report

Dynamo Kiev 2 Man. United 4

Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo helped a dominant Manchester United to a comfortable victory at Dynamo Kiev. Rio Ferdinand opened the scoring when he headed in a Ryan Giggs free-kickfrom the left before Wayne Rooney tapped in Wes Brown’s low cross. Diogo Rincon reduced the deficit with a header before Ronaldo nodded in United’s third. Ronaldo scored from the spot after Goran Gavrancic handballed before Ismael Bangoura fired in late for Kiev.

Victory gave United their third win from three Champions League games this season but never would Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have thought they would achieve the result in such a shockingly easy manner. Kiev’s defence was poor. Actually to be blunt, they were awful for much of the match. Continue reading »

Sour GrapesYesterday’s game against AS Roma, was an open game and we might once more not have been the crushing winners, everyone expects ManU to be, but who cares?
As I was speaking about last night’s game with friends at work and at the pub too, I became quickly pi$$ed off.

We’ve been lucky.

Those were the wise words of almost everyone who wanted to discuss yesterday’s game with me. I call bollocks on this one. We HAVE NOT been lucky, Roma have been lucky. Or maybe not. We just saw an open game with several chances at every side. And we saw many internationals on the pitch all performing on a high level, especially the defenders at both sides.

ManUtd - Roma Score BoardOn Tuesday, Roma comes to OT again and we’ll have another chance to get in our rhythm, hopefully scoring more goals this time. Last season we’ve beaten Roma 7-1 in the replay of the UCL quarter finals, but chances that we’ll repeat this royal beating are rather slim. Not because we don’t have the talent to so, but more because those monster scores are rather exceptional and repeating that performance would be a unique performance.

After VDS’s toe injury, SAF faces other defensive problems, with both Vidic and Brown having missed today’s training session. Both defenders received a knock and Fergie mentioned Pique would be the obvious replacement for Vidic or Brown.
Last weekend, our Boss hinted at youngsters being allowed to leave OT and pick up match rhythm. The poor performance of our talented junior squad against Coventry resulted in Ferguson stating that Pique and Danny Simpson could be useful for the first squad. What does this mean for Dong, Evans, Eagles (who played several times already this season) and Lee Martin?

Sporting Lisbon - ManU Header

FT. 0-1 for Manu. Ronaldo scored and we take 3 points with us to OT. Good notes for today: VDS, MVP (2 brilliant saves) and Rooney played 71 minutes, getting more and more in the game as the match went on. And maybe most important of all, next to the 3 points, was that we didn’t really have to burn energy and with Ronaldo’s first ManU goal of the season, the confidence now certainly will grow and everything looks like Jose might have preferred not to travel to OT on Sunday. I bet tomorrow the’ll start whining already about all the injuries, low quality of the other players aso.
Wait, that’s what he has been doing last 3 weeks already.

I’m out here, see ya tomorrow… and Sunday, LIVE REPORTING again!

John TerryNow the Prem has well started, it’s time to have a first look at our Fantasy Footie League.
We have 32 participants, competing for the $500 prize, so far. Of course it’s never too late to join in and much can change quickly in this game.

After 6 gameweeks, Funky Toon F.C. and Riverdale United have taken a clear early lead, and Funky Toon F.C. could still score points today when Newcastle tries to add another victory to their not too bad balance this year. After the jump, at the end of the entry, a screenshot of the Top #20 so far.

With the Champions League starting tomorrow, of course we also launch another league, for the UCL only. ((only for fun this time!))
Join this league at the official official UEFA site and after you have signed up and created your team, use the code

111162-18831

to join this league.

And now to the funnier parts. John Terry.

UEFA Champions League LogoI’m a little late with this and didn’t announce it either, but today… live coverage of the Champions League 2007-2008 draw.

We just have been drawn in Group F.
A sweet cherry for us: second in Group F are Roma. Will we bang in another 7 this time?

Chelsea, Group B, already has Valencia and the Germans from Schalke04 in their group.

Sporting Lisbon now drawn in our Group.

Liverpool teamed up with FC Porto, Jose’s former club, and Marseille. I think Cisse and Zenden will look forward to their return to Anfield Road.

Arsenal together with the winner of the AEK Athens/Sevilla1 game and Steua Bucharest.

Last team in our group are Dynamo Kiev, the Ukrainian champions.

For Sir Alex Ferguson, obtaining the Champions League Cup is the next stop for the United Reds. While they fell short due to injuries to a couple of their players, it is obvious that the team is headed in that direction and only time will tell. After talks of impending player transfers coming their way and leaving enough time for the healing period to its key players, it will be all systems go in the coming months as the United Reds will be once again in harness.

Manchester United Celebration

Â

The Reds have proven to be a team to reckon with despite the various obstacles that the team has faced. Getting that far with what they have is an accomplishment that Ferguson has readily appreciated and lauded. One can just think of what would become of the Reds team once all players are up and about. A scary thought for their opponents and a wondrous one for Ferguson and company.
