The award was handed by Sir Alex who was equally pleased as Ronaldo.

Apart from that Cesc Fabregas was named PFA’s young player of the year. The weird is that Ronaldo to was present in that race and missed out to him.The PFA team was also announced and three of our very best players could into that. And the happy part no Chelski player get their spot in the team. :P

The current psychologically enhanced war between Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea Manager Jose Mourino has been heating up but United Red’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been making all efforts to put an end to the conflict, drawing a line to end all the fire that is slowly razing.

Fergusson calls it a tactic to break the streak and momentum that Ronaldo has been enjoying as of late. The below the belt remarks over media and the Chelsea manager has questioned the level of education and upbringing that the Reds star has.

But one bright note as far as Ronaldo is concerned is his control of not being drawn into the low morale remarks that is surely something no ordinary person would take sitting down. His manner of handling the situation is truly commendable and only shows his manner and level of principles in avoiding to be drawn in such a low blow exchange in the hot wind up of the Champion’s League.

An injury time winning goal was all that was needed and Wayne Rooney became the unlikely savior, helping the United Reds buck a 2-1 lead during halftime and escape with a 3-2 victory over AC Milan at Old Trafford in the semi-finals first leg.

It was poetry in motion for Rooney as he executed a goal on a perfect assist coming from Paul Scholes. The hard earned win was evident as emphatically stated by Rooney after the game. They now carry the momentum going into the second leg next Wednesday in the Champions League decider in San Siro.

“It’s a great feeling,” he told ITV Sport. “It was a difficult match but when it got late we kept going. We knew the victory would make it a little bit easier for the away leg. And to get a goal in the last minute is a great feeling.

“It was fantastic. At 2-1 behind at half-time against a very good Milan team, we knew it would be difficult to get the win. The manager told us too keep pushing, keep going and we’ll get the goals, and we did.” –Rooney relieved by winner

Cristiano Ronaldo was already making waves in the early goings and perhaps this is one reason why this hotshot has now added another feather in his cap when he was awarded the PFA Fan’s Player of the Year award.

Ronaldo is best known for his exciting style of play, something that has made the 22 year old winger a player to watch out for. He has gained the respect of his teammates and the fans, all leading up to this award that is due for the potential player of the ages.

Even in the eyes of abuse and roughed up plays at the World Cup, Ronaldo still managed to maintain his composure and gave the fans something to watch. With his determination and style of play, he is obviously the hands down choice for the award and even PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor made this known:

“He is the most exciting player in the country at the moment. The quickness of his feet and the skills he possesses make you think, at times, that he’s from another planet.

“This season was a big test for him, both of his temperament and his ability to rise above the abuse he received after the incident with Wayne Rooney at the World Cup, and he has passed with flying colours in every department.” – PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor

Being the best in the game will have its advantages and such was the contract offered to Cristiano Ronaldo. No details were disclosed yet but the contract states that Ronaldo will be donning the United uniform until 2012.

No other than Ryan Giggs was elated over the deal, stating that United made a good move in securing the services of the Portugese player who is destined for greatness.

“He’s been on fire this season, his form has been unbelievable. For someone in his position and of his age to be as consistent as he has been is remarkable.”

“There is no-one who can rival him as the best in the world at the moment,” he added. “He’s improved as a player, but he’s continuing to improve which is the scary thing. Whatever challenges he faces, it doesn’t bother him or faze him.

“The thing he needs to do now is to be consistent for the next ten years. If he does that he’ll rightly be up there with the greats.” – Giggs delight at Ronny deal.

Based on winning tradition and how United rewards deserving players, Cristiano Ronaldo is certainly a player on the rise that will be among the greats one day. Giggs has challenged Ronaldo to maintain his rise towards stardom and from all indications, it doesn’t seem to be a hard task for the Portugese player.

Looks like United will continue to rise on the top with its roster of talented players. The best part of it is that the players are doing it wholeheartedly and easily.

Ryan Giggs can continue playing for Manchester United for at least another two or three seasons, according to assistant manager Carlos Queiroz.

Saturday’s trip to Liverpool will mark his 700th appearance in a United shirt and his 16th year in the top flight.

Giggs, 33, says he does not know if he can play on beyond the end of his contract in 2008.

But Queiroz said: “We expect his contribution to be another two or three years without any problems.”

“He’s still got lots in the locker now,” said the Birmingham City manager, also talking exclusively to the BBC.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he goes on and does 20 years at the top because he’s got all the attributes to carry on – and make no mistake, he’ll still have that same hunger in his stomach that epitomises a top player.”

Queiroz said Giggs’s longevity was “a fantastic, outstanding achievement”.

“It is very rare to find a player who is able to complete 16 years in one club playing at the level of Giggsy,” the Portuguese added.

“It is an outstanding, amazing career. To be not only on top of, but one step ahead of the demands and goals Manchester United have is really something fantastic.

“And that tells us something about his personality, the way he is committed to and his passion for the club and the game, his motivation and concentration at training sessions.

“If you lose that desire, that fifth gear in your stomach, you just can’t do it.”

Queiroz added: “After 16 years, Giggs is Manchester United. The way he plays, with so much fantasy, creativity and entertainment – but also outside the pitch as a professional – he is really a role model for the game.

Dong Fangzhou’s arrival at Old Trafford could never be described as easy or fast. In fact, it was more like an odyssey befitting the old adventure literature of his home country China. Dong’s recruitment into Manchester United was not as straightforward as others might think, it actually was quite circuitous and would have discouraged most people if they had experienced what Dong did.

Sir Alex Ferguson signed Dong up in January 2004 after he wowed Manchester United scouts while playing for the Dalian Shide. The then 19 year old Dong could not be put into the Reds Academy immediately because he did not have a work permit. This meant that he had to stay for almost two years with ManUtd’s feeder club Royal Antwerp in Belgium before he could join the big boys at Old Trafford.

Dong sees his stint in Belgium as an opportunity to further improve his skills and round out his over all abilities on the field. He says that the time he spent in Belgium only ensured that he is at his best when he finally joins the Red Devils. Now all eyes are on him to see if he will be able to wow the fans and also contribute to the team’s push to win a title this year.

For the longest time, Roy Keane was one of the vital cogs in the Manchester United machinery. Unfortunately, even with Keano’s departure, it seemed that that vital piece of machinery went with him. This has left the Manchester United machine gasping at some points, which was apparent in the season after Keano leaving Old Trafford.

But it looks like the large shadow that Keane has cast over the team is finally lifting even though Sir Alex Ferguson is still looking for that intense player that would most likely replace Keano and make the kind of contributions the latter made. Even though Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick are more than adept at their stated roles midfield roles but Sir Alex is still quite convinced that the team needs another powerhouse and he has identified Owen Hargreaves as the man for the job. Sir Alex has proven time and again that he has an almost uncanny ability of identifying what the Red Devils need and he has consistently delivered time and again. I still support Sir Alex’s decision and can’t wait how this season will end for Manchester United.

Paul Scholes says his Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world on current form.

Ronaldo has scored 12 goals as United have opened up a six point gap at the top of the Premiership table.

“The amount of goals and the amount of assists he’s had has been frightening,” Scholes told Football Focus.

“I haven’t seen anybody take players on, score goals and make goals like he has in this first half of the season, so he rightfully deserves that tag.”

Scholes added: “We just hope that for the second half of the season he can have the same effect on the team that he’s had in the first half. We’re sure he can do that.”

Scholes himself has been in top form despite missing much of last season with blurred vision.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently tipped the 32-year-old as an early contender for the Footballer of the Year award, but Scholes insists there is room for improvement.

He said: “I still think I can play better and I still think the team can play better so for the second half of the season we hope we can do that. I know over the years I’ve played better than I am doing now. I want to get back to those sorts of levels and hopefully I can do that.”

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has claimed the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award, despite Wayne Rooney being tipped as the hot favourite. It is the first time the 25-year-old has been named player of the year by his peers, although he was Young Player of the Year in 2001.

Gerrard, who a day earlier helped Liverpool win their FA Cup semi-final, said to the Daily Express:

“I am still in shock. To go through to another FA Cup final and win this special award in the same weekend is fantastic for me.”

Wayne Rooney, the 20-year-old Manchester United striker, at least won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the second successive season.

Rooney had been a contender for the senior player of the year prize – along with Gerrard, Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and the Chelsea trio Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and John Terry, who won last year. Gerrard was third in last season’s vote but then went on to guide the Reds to Champions League victory against AC Milan in Istanbul. Players receive two votes and Gerrard revealed that he had voted for Henry and England team-mate Rooney.

Manchester United star Rooney said he was pleased to again pick up the young player prize.

“To win it twice on the run is a great honour and I am delighted with the award.” Rooney said.

He beat off competition from Charlton striker Darren Bent, team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon, Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand.

Rooney added: “I voted for Fabregas, but it was close between him and Darren Bent.“

It was no surprise that champions Chelsea had the most players named in the Premiership Team of the Year in the shape of John Terry, William Gallas, Joe Cole and Frank Lampard.

Newcastle’s Shay Given was picked in goal while Wigan full-back Pascal Chimbonda was also included after a solid season for Paul Jewell’s side.
