Manchester United welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Old Trafford at 3pm on Saturday as both teams will look for three points, with very contrasting reasons.
While the visitors linger dangerously only a few points above the relegation zone, the hosts badly need the three points to keep up the pace with Manchester City, who are running away at the top of the Premier League table and are the bookies’ favourites with the best football odds to win the title.
The result will be even more important to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side as they will respond appropriately after humiliating bowing out of the UEFA Champions League at the group stage phase. Four wins in their last five league outings suggest it is not time to panic just yet though for the Red Devils.
Yesterday’s game was a hard fought battle and in the first half Stoke City certainly tried to prove that they are better than what can be called ‘there are 6 or 7 teams who do not deserve to be in the Premier League’ and kept the game open for the first half hour.
But the experience and pure class of ManUtd resulted in another deserved win for the Red Devils, one which brings us to the top of the table for the first time in the 2009-2010 season.
And if we love to call Cantona ‘King Eric’, Ryan Giggs yesterday once more proved that he deserves to be called Emperor Ryan. Again he outperformed the illustrous and already forgotten Portuguese player who once used to tumble run up and down our pitch. Way to impress and show who are the Kings of England!
Before I write about the main problem we are facing this season, here’s some pictures of yesterday’s game.
After the jump there’s some smug pictures as well and let’s see if you can find an oddity in one of those. Continue reading »
It has taken a while to recover from Sunday’s game. Losing always is difficult, but losing to the Scousers is even harder. And Sunday’s game was one of those where nothing worked.
Let’s admit it: they ran faster, ran harder and wanted it more. And they had the support of top flight unexperienced referee Andre Marriner who blatantly helped the Dippers.
Tomorrow is THE game and this year the trip to Anfield Road comes with two more bonus elements. First of all there is the question if the Anfield loyals will show Michael Owen the respect he deserves for his time at The Kop. The other factor is whether it will be the last game in charge for the Spanish waiter.
Rafa Benitez has lost 6 games out of 13 games played this season so far and I will be nice here but he actually is a good manager. A good manager with a bad attitude. A manager who seems to have lost passion. One could give the Spaniard the bonus of the problems in the board room, some people even say that he doesn’t have money to buy players but that argument is bollocks for the guy who has bought more than 70 players in his time at the Merseyside. With another derby in front of us, probably the most exciting one every year, against the Dippers, what better way to preview with some older and memorable videos from the last years.
The Waiter Looks for Excuses Why Liverpool Might Not Win The League, AKA Rafa’s Epic Rant.
Long before Christmas Rafa Benitez launched an epic rant against Ferguson last season. After the rant Liverpool’s results started to get worse and worse. Once more it has been proven that the Achilles heel of Liverpool one Spaniard is. Fact.
