Manchester United have been linked to a summer swoop for Lille midfielders Mathieu Bodmer and Jean Makoun in the Sun Newspaper
It is believed United tried to sign Bodmer in January and may renew their interest, while preliminary talks have reportedly begun for Makoun, 22.
“I’ve a clause that allows me to go if a club offers £5.5m,” Bodmer, 23, confirmed to the News of the World.
“I know United are interested. My agents have met United. They want to sign me for next season. There is no concrete offer for Lille but I know United will make one at the end of the season.“
The pair featured in Lille’s group stage Champions League matches against United and Makoun starred for Cameroon in the recent African Cup of Nations.
His contract with the Ligue 1 club runs until June 2010 but it is thought Lille may cash in on Makoun if they fail to clinch a place in the Champions League. Bodmer moved to Lille in 2003 and has previously attracted interest from Arsenal.
These transfers would be the fourth and fifth transfers since the Glazer takeoever- Van der Sar, Ji-Sung Park, Vidic and Evra being the previous- and further proof of their promise to invest in the footballing side of the club, allaying the previous fears of many fans.
