Phil McNulty on Tevez’s move to The Council House

July 14, 2009 By Franky

Carlos Tevez

BBC Sport’s Chief football writer Phil McNulty has the best analysis around Tevez’s importance for ManUtd and Man City now the Argentinean has agreed a deal worth £150k/week at Eastlands and around £25m to put his pen down on said paper.

The absence of Tevez, as well as the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, makes more room in the middle for Wayne Rooney – a superior talent and goalscorer to the Argentina international.

This, however, does not make him a questionable purchase by Hughes. He is an upgrade on what City currently have and he will be at a club where – and even Eastlands fans must recognise this – aspirations and expectations are currently on an entirely different level.

Would a huge outlay on Tevez have taken United on to another level? No. Will a huge outlay on Tevez improve City and help them towards their eventual target? Every chance. This alone makes perfect sense of City’s new signing.

He fulfils two time-honoured transfer criteria. Is he better than what City currently have? Can they afford him? Yes, and most emphatically yes.

McNulty correctly outlines that A. Tevez wasn’t worth the money to assure a stay at OT and B. ManUtd have a superior talent, Wayne Rooney, already.

Paul Merson on Michael Owen

July 10, 2009 By Franky

Interesting words on the possible future role of Michael Owen at ManUtd by former England international Paul Merson.

… he just seems to know where the ball is going. You can tell that by the amount of headed goals he gets, especially for Newcastle. He’s nowhere near the biggest on the pitch, but he still gets there first, because instinctively he knows where to go.

People talk about him losing that crucial yard of pace and it might be true, but I don’t think it will matter at United one bit. Yes, between the halfway line and the edge of the box it has affected his game, but he won’t need that – it’s in the penalty area where they want him.

Michael is not interested in dropping deep and linking up and United will not want him to do that – they already have Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov to do that.

Basically this means we signed a new RVN, only slightly smaller. I am looking forward to this and am sure Michael is the poacher we need in many games. Now Berba will have to prove his work rate though. When last year I thought the perfect triangle up front would be Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez, all three in a free role, alternating their position freely, this season I can perfectly imagine the tandem Rooney – Owen as a lethal recipe for more silverware.

The Most Exciting Last Days… The Hunt For The Away Kit 2007/2008

July 26, 2007 By red devil

Sorry for not having posted several days, I’ve not forgotten you!
But I must admit… last week was boring. Nothing happened and the news headlines still were the same: Tevez & Gaby, with a little Smithy.

In between all the transfer talk, we played two more games in Asia. And scored 10 times. But lets not overrate those 10 goals. Those were friendlies. Friendlies in Asia, at a total different pace. ManU were allowed time on the ball, covering was as close as Liverpool and ManUtd are and… the games were fun.
We have one more game in Asia, on Friday against Guangzhou Pharmaceutical and next Tuesday we play Inter Milan in a friendly at OT.

I can’t repeat it enough, but it’s time for the Prem to start. I’m bored of all the talk. I want to see the lads play. I want to see goals. I want action. I want England, Europe and the whole world Europe to realize whose The Best Damn Football Club in The World (TBDFCITW)! Because it’s us! ManU!

And if rumours are true, if that’s going to be our away kit… we will even have The Most Awesome Kit On The Whole Planet (TMKOTWP)! Even though the picture is blurred, that black kit totally rocks! I want one! Two actually: an Owen and a Rio shirt for me please. I’ll have a Ronaldo and a Gaby one for the home kit.

ManUtd Away Kit 2007/2008

Let the Season start now please. Let whoever wants to leave leave, let everyone who’s allowed to join us join us, I don’t care anymore right now… all I want now is football.

Uncle Jose already started the stupidities and I’m looking forward to many more to come!

They are contenders for the title, of course, but I still believe Chelsea have the best players in the world.

Don’t forget our Fantasy League and I’ll do my best, but don’t guarantee anything, not to sound as a cheerboy anymore, like I do in this entry. :D
