Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has won the Premiership manager of the month award for March. England striker Wayne Rooney made it a double for United by picking up the player prize.
United won all five of their Premiership matches in March, cutting Chelsea’s lead at the top of the Premiership to seven points.
Rooney, 20, featured in all five games, scoring twice against Newcastle and once against Birmingham.
The striker has won the player award twice in the past, while Ferguson has been named manager of the month an impressive 16 times. And this in the same week that the 20-year-old striker was on the front pages for all the wrong reasons, with alleged debts of �700,000 which are said to have caused a bad atmosphere within the England camp. Reports claim Rooney owes the money to one of Michael Owen’s business partners and the debt is causing a rift between the England team-mates
