The Daily Mirror reports that United will face a tough task holding onto Cristiano Ronaldo if Real Madrid make a move to sign the Portuguese winger.
Some reports say the Reds’ 21-year-old has declared that he fancies time in La Liga at some point in his career.
Valencia had met with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes according to reports recently to discuss a 15m move to Spain. Now Real have allegedly placed Ronaldo high on their wanted list this summer as a Bernabeu shake-up is on the cards.
Ronaldo has opened the door to Spanish interest having admitted that the game in Spain is to his liking.
Ronaldo said to the BBC:
“God willing, one day I will play in Spain. I heard of Real’s interest with great tranquillity and satisfaction. It’s one of the world’s great clubs. Nobody knows what the future holds. The best thing is to let things run their course. What must happen will happen. The Spanish League is the best in the world. The football is more open, less physical and maybe for that reason is more spectacular. It allows a different type of game – more technical and virtuoso.”
Sir Alex Ferguson will fight tooth and nail to keep Ronaldo having spent 12.5m on the teenage Sporting Lisbon prodigy in 2003. The United manager sees Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney as the cornerstones of the Reds’ future.
