Bad news….
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could miss the start of the Premiership season next weekend because of injury.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney was struggling to be fit for the home game against Fulham next Sunday.
“It is going to be a push for Wayne to be fit,” he said after United beat Sevilla 3-0 in a friendly on Saturday. He has a groin injury, which is causing a little bit of bother at the moment. It is nothing serious but there is a worry about next Sunday.”
Rooney has not played since being sent off in the 3-1 victory against Porto eight days ago.
The injury could leave United short of attacking options for the first game of the season.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been sold to Real Madrid and Alan Smith is still said to be two weeks away from full fitness after breaking his leg last February.
Cristiano Ronaldo supported Louis Saha up front in the game against the Uefa Cup champions at Old Trafford on Friday.
